The History of Kite Country

Kite Country is a family owned business, but it wasn’t always that way. Before Kite Country was even a concept in future founder and owner, Victor Heredia, he was an inventor. After he came to San Diego, Victor invented many useful devices, but the one that would make his name known was the “Vic’s Fighter Kite”. Back in (1964), He was making these kites by hand in a rented garage, but he soon was famous for his Fighter Kite, selling over a million of them during their production. Soon enough, with the money from his Fighter Kites, Victor opened the first Kite Country in Horton Plaza in 1985. After 15 years in Horton Plaza, times had changed, and so too did Kite Country. Kite Country moved from Horton Plaza to it’s much smaller current location, where thanks to our loyal and generous kite community, we have managed to keep our doors open even through the recent times. While it hasn’t been easy to keep afloat in recent times, we here at Kite Country have stuck to our roots, using our knowledge, kindness, and great deals to keep our kite community happy and prosperous.

And now times have begun to change once again, and to keep up with it, Kite Country has begun the process of creating our online presence. That does not mean we are closing our physical location, but simply providing another avenue for us to reach our community. We will continue to follow our roots and provide quality service to all who walk through our doors.
